West Bengal Man Held by Mumbai Police for Sending Over 50 Hoax Bomb Threat Emails Across India

Mumbai Police arrested a 28-year-old man from North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal for allegedly sending more than 50 hoax bomb threat emails to institutions and public places across India. The arrest was made following a joint investigation by multiple agencies tracking the threatening messages.

The accused, identified as Sourav Biswas, allegedly sent emails targeting schools, courts, metro stations, and financial institutions in several cities. The threats triggered panic and forced authorities to conduct security checks and evacuations at various locations, although no explosives were found.

Investigators said the emails had been sent over several days to spread fear among the public and strain security agencies. Cyber teams traced the digital trail of the messages before locating and arresting the suspect in West Bengal.

The arrest was first made by the Gujarat Crime Branch with the help of the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Unit during the nationwide probe into the hoax threats. Mumbai Police later took custody of the accused for further investigation related to threats sent to locations in the city.

Police officials said the suspect was being interrogated to determine his motive, possible accomplices, and the technical methods he used to send the threatening emails. Authorities were also examining whether he used tools such as VPN services to conceal his identity while sending the messages.

The case had triggered heightened alert across several states after a series of bomb threat emails caused disruption at schools, courts, and other public institutions. Officials confirmed that all the threats turned out to be hoaxes, but they led to extensive security checks and emergency responses by law enforcement agencies.
