Maharashtra Politicos Acknowledge Uddhav Thackeray’s Legislative Legacy as MLC Term Comes to a Close

As Uddhav Thackeray’s six-year stint as a Member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) nears its end in May 2026, political leaders across the spectrum took a moment this week to recognise his contributions — not just as a legislator but as a distinctive figure in Maharashtra politics.

During the final session of the current legislature, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke warmly about Thackeray’s journey, describing him not as a stereotypical politician, but as someone whose public persona blended firmness with an unexpectedly personal and reflective side. Fadnavis’ remarks underscored that, despite political differences, respect and long-standing relationships can transcend party lines.

Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader <span class="aet-entity aet-person" data-title="Eknath Shinde" data-text="Eknath Sambhaji Shinde is an Indian politician who has served as the 10th Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra alongside Sunetra Pawar under Chief Minister…” data-img=”https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/53/Eknath_Shinde_SS.jpg/330px-Eknath_Shinde_SS.jpg” data-url=”https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eknath_Shinde”>Eknath Shinde joined in wishing Thackeray well, emphasising good health and future success. Leaders like NCP’s Sunetra Pawar added an emotional note, characterising the transition not as an end but as a pause in a larger political journey.

Thackeray himself used the platform to reflect on his political path — symbolically linking the start of his term in March 2020 with its conclusion in March 2026. He spoke candidly about major actions taken during his term, from administrative decisions in Raigad to championing the renaming of Aurangabad as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. He also offered a sharp critique of the current political climate, likening shifting alliances to an “Indian Political League” where clarity sometimes gets lost.

With his term concluding and no clear next step yet defined, Thackeray’s departure from the council marks the end of a notable chapter in Maharashtra’s legislative landscape.
