As part of the nationwide Census 2027 exercise, Muth village in Vengurla taluka of Sindhudurg district, Maharashtra, has become the first village in the state to successfully finish the self-enumeration process — a key early phase of the census that allows households to submit their own data before field surveys begin.
The achievement came through strong coordination between local officials and residents, with all families in the village voluntarily participating and submitting accurate information online within the allotted timeframe. Officials said the milestone was reached with guidance from the District Collector and the village revenue team, highlighting the value of community engagement in the census process.
Muth village — home to about 36 houses and 144 people completed self-enumeration under the digital-friendly Census 2027 model, which encourages households to enter information themselves through online portals before enumerators begin door-to-door verification and housing listing.
Officials hope this early success will inspire other villages across Maharashtra to adopt self-enumeration and help streamline the broader census drive, which aims to collect comprehensive demographic and housing data that will inform planning and policy in years to come.
