US-based aerospace company Natilus has announced its expansion into India with the launch of Natilus India, a wholly owned subsidiary headquartered in Mumbai. The move marks a strategic step in the company’s global growth plans as it scales development of its blended-wing-body (BWB) aircraft designed for more sustainable and fuel-efficient air travel.
Focus On Blended-Wing-Body Aircraft Expansion
Natilus India will focus on expanding the company’s family of BWB aircraft, including its flagship passenger aircraft HORIZON and cargo aircraft KONA. The HORIZON aircraft is designed to carry up to 240 passengers, while KONA targets next-generation air cargo operations.
The Indian subsidiary will be led by Ravi Bhatia, who will oversee business expansion, partnerships and localisation efforts.
In addition to aircraft development, Natilus India will explore sourcing India-manufactured components, aligning with the country’s growing aerospace manufacturing ecosystem. The company is targeting initial deliveries of the HORIZON aircraft in the 2030s, subject to certification and regulatory approvals.
Commercial Partnership With SpiceJet
Alongside the launch of Natilus India, the company announced its first commercial airline partnership with Indian low-cost carrier SpiceJet. Under the agreement, SpiceJet plans to purchase 100 HORIZON aircraft once the model receives certification in India.
The partnership represents a significant validation of Natilus’ blended-wing-body aircraft concept and highlights growing airline interest in next-generation, fuel-efficient aircraft platforms.
Strengthening India’s Aerospace Ecosystem
Natilus’ entry into India underscores the country’s rising importance as a hub for aerospace engineering, manufacturing and innovation. With increasing airline demand, skilled talent availability and policy support, India is emerging as a key market for advanced aviation technologies.
By establishing operations in Mumbai and partnering with an Indian airline, Natilus is positioning itself to play a meaningful role in shaping the future of sustainable aviation in one of the world’s fastest-growing air travel markets.
