Probe Focuses on Relationship Angle in Wadala Woman’s Death; Man Arrested for Abetment

Mumbai Police have arrested a man for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 24-year-old woman in Wadala, as investigators examine claims that a troubled relationship may have pushed the young woman into severe emotional distress.

The woman was found unresponsive in her room at her residence on March 9 after her parents discovered her lying unconscious. She was immediately taken to Sion Hospital, where doctors declared her dead before admission.

Relationship Under Police Scrutiny

According to police officials from Antop Hill police station, the arrested man was reportedly in a relationship with the woman for more than a year. Her father later filed a complaint alleging that the accused had subjected his daughter to repeated verbal abuse and humiliation.

The family claims that the man often made derogatory remarks about her character, which caused significant mental stress and emotional trauma.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case against the accused under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with abetment to suicide.

Six-Page Letter Recovered

During the investigation, officers recovered a six-page handwritten note from the woman’s room. The document has been sent for handwriting analysis to confirm its authenticity as part of the ongoing probe.

According to preliminary findings, the letter indicates that the woman was deeply affected by developments in the relationship. In the note, she reportedly apologised to her family for the pain her decision would cause and wrote that she felt overwhelmed by her situation.

Investigation Continues

Police are now examining the contents of the letter and other evidence to understand the circumstances that led to the incident. Statements from family members and acquaintances are also being recorded as investigators attempt to reconstruct the events leading up to the woman’s death.

Officials said further action in the case will depend on the findings of the forensic examination and the progress of the investigation.
